Quick Answer
Flowery, the floral boss in Deltarune Chapter 5, is a fight you finish through the ACT menu, not the FIGHT menu. The mercy clear is to spare him after triggering the right ACT sequence in his second phase, while learning to graze his flower petal bullets to fill TP fast.
Mash FIGHT and he will hand you a game over inside three turns. Take the patient route and the encounter unlocks the deeper story beats Chapter 5 was clearly built around.
What Chapter 5 is and where Flowery fits
Deltarune Chapter 5 is the latest official chapter in Toby Fox's ongoing release, continuing the Kris, Susie and Ralsei storyline through a new Dark World themed around a field of pink and gold flowers. Flowery appears partway through the chapter as one of the major bosses tied to that flower realm, with his own boss theme on the chapter soundtrack.
If you are still on Chapters 1 to 4, this guide will spoil a fight but no major story beats. Skip ahead to the final section if you want strategy only.
Before you walk in
Bring at least 4 healing items split across the party. Susie should be holding a weapon with high attack rather than high magic, Ralsei should be in his standard healing setup, and Kris benefits from any item that boosts max HP.

Save at the nearest bench. If you lose the run you keep your level but lose any consumables you used on the way in.
Phase 1: survive the vines
On the opening turns Flowery has very high defence and FIGHT damage rounds to single digits. Switch your strategy mentally before the first menu pops up.
- Kris: open the ACT menu and pick the dialogue option that responds to his opening line, not an attack.
- Susie: DEFEND. Her defending action also generates extra TP for the party, which you will need in phase two.
- Ralsei: use his single target Heal Prayer only if a party member is below half HP, otherwise DEFEND.
The vine attacks track your SOUL across the box. Move in slow short steps rather than holding the stick. Hold and you will overshoot into the next vine.
Phase 2: graze the petals
After a few turns the box shrinks and Flowery starts throwing radial rings of white flower petals out from the centre. This is where you make up TP.
Instead of running away from the petals, slide your SOUL just outside the edge of each one as it passes. Brushing against a bullet without taking damage triggers Deltarune's graze mechanic, which fills the TP gauge fast. A clean graze run during one of these turns can fill the meter from zero to full.
If a wave looks unavoidable, accept one petal hit rather than panicking and eating a whole ring. Even a missed graze still grants TP.
The ACT sequence that ends it
Once your TP meter is high, the goal switches from survival to triggering the spare. Cycle Kris through the ACT options on Flowery in this rough order:
- Talk to him to keep his attention on your party.
- Use the unique ACT that appears specific to Flowery (the menu adds a new line once you have heard his backstory).
- When the YELLOW name on his SPARE option lights up, take it.
The exact ACT names change subtly between routes (mercy versus weird), but the structure is the same. When SPARE turns yellow, you have done enough.
If you want to FIGHT instead
FIGHT is possible if you ignore the pacifist route. Stack Susie with the highest attack weapon you have, use her Rude Buster spell once TP is at 100, and have Ralsei keep Kris alive with Heal Prayer every other turn. Expect the fight to take twice as long and to lose at least one party member temporarily before the kill.
Common mistakes
Mashing through dialogue. Flowery has tells in his text that hint at which ACT to use next. Read every line.
Standing still in the bullet box. The pattern is built around small movements. Big sweeps will catch a petal.
Using up healing items in phase one. The damage is low. Save items for phase two when the wide attacks land harder.
Ignoring TP. Without a full TP bar you cannot trigger the higher tier spells or the final graze chain that opens SPARE.
The takeaway
Flowery is a patience check. Defend through the vines, graze the petals to bank TP, ACT through his dialogue and SPARE the moment the option lights up. Brute force kills him eventually but the fight was built for mercy, and the post-fight beats only land properly if you take that route.
